Our Story

Hi, we’re Megan and Joanne- We’re the proud founders of SwimSchool. We started this journey back in September 2021 with a simple goal: to help children fall in love with swimming in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment.

Swimming has always been a big part of our lives, and we truly believe it’s one of the most important life skills a child can learn. We are both qualified teachers alongside running, SwimSchool and we bring elements of education into our swimming lessons, to nurture and develop not only children’s
physical abilities but also their learning skills too. It’s the most rewarding experience of our lives.

What started as a small idea has grown into something really special. Teaching hundreds of amazing children every week- from little ones just 12 months old all the way through to swim club level.

We’re also very proud to announce that we have been awarded Swim School of the Year 2025!

We can’t wait to welcome you to our award-winning swimming community.

What Makes Us Different

We Celebrate Every Achievement & Milestone

At SwimSchool, it’s more than just swimming. Our lessons are fun, engaging, and filled with creativity – we theme them, we celebrate every milestone, and we always make sure each child feels proud of what they’ve achieved. We offer group sessions, 1:1 and 2:1 lessons, and we’re passionate about making swimming accessible to all, including children with special educational needs.

We're Passionate About What We Do

Our team of teachers are truly brilliant. They share our passion and work incredibly hard to make every session enjoyable and meaningful. Whether it’s helping a toddler put their face in the water for the first time or guiding older pupils toward their Rookie Lifeguard award, we make sure each child feels seen, supported, and safe.

More Than Lessons - It’s a Community

Over the past few years, we’ve built something we’re really proud of – not just a swim school, but a community.

We celebrate every achievement, big or small, and we host fun pool parties at the end of each term so the children can relax, play, and show off what they’ve learned. Parents often tell us how much their children look forward to coming – and that means the world to us.

What We're Proud Of

We’ve also received 100% 5-star reviews on Google and Facebook, and honestly? That feedback means everything. Knowing that families trust us with their children’s safety and confidence is a huge honour.

Just wanted to leave a review to say thank you for a wonderful week of intensive lessons in July for my 2 daughters. They were apprehensive before starting but they loved going every day and I can see how much their confidence has grown with the sessions. The teachers Grace and Joanne were so lovely and patient with them and they made very good progress during the sessions. Thank you for all the help.

My daughter recently attended the daily intensive lessons at Sharples. She is 5 and has refused lessons up until now, but Joanne made her feel so confident in the water. On day 1 she had three ring armbands on each arm and a noodle, 30 minutes later she was confident enough to have a go with just one on each. Daily lessons for a week meant she tried swimming on her back, up to the deep end and jumping in and doing this daily meant she has come on so much in such a short space of time. By the end of the week she could swim a short way with no arm bands. If the intensives were on again next week, I’d book her on again! I couldn’t recommend Swim School enough. She loved the lessons and is now happy to start weekly swimming lessons with Swim School in September.

Cannot recommemd SwimSchool enough! Our little girl went swimming from Jan to April at another swimming school and didnt progress at all, no confidence and wearing three rings a side. She started Swim School in May and has now in July has achieved her 20 metres with no arm bands! Swim School have nurtured her, given her confidence and have provided a valuable learning environment which has helped my daughter (and countless others) flourish. Dont hesitate to send your child, they will be star swimmers in no time! ✨️🎉

We couldn’t be happier with the swimming lessons! We tried several different swim schools before finding this one, but our daughter was always very timid and lacked confidence in the water. Since being taught by Megan, she has absolutely flourished. Megan has been so patient, kind and encouraging, taking the time to build her confidence at her own pace. Our daughter now looks forward to her lessons every week and genuinely loves going swimming, which is something we never thought we’d see. Thank you, Megan, for making such a positive difference. We would highly recommend these lessons to any parent, especially if they have a child who is a little nervous or lacking confidence in the water!

Our daughter Ayla has just finished her 2nd holiday camp. She loves it very much and would give it 10 stars if she could :).

We first came across Swim School via a recommendation from a friend after being disappointed with 2 other well known local providers. I am SO glad we made the decision to get in touch with Joanne and Megan back in 2022 - we’ve never looked back! Arthur, now 7, started at a summer intensive week just before he started school at age 4, with 3 armbands on both arms, a noodle, and a lot of tears! He is now Stage 3 with 200m, Water Skills badges and lots of other certificates under his belt! George started when he had just turned 3 and after refusing to even get in the water for his first 3 lessons, now age 5, has recently swam his 20m and has lots of Duckling awards and skills badges! They both absolutely love their lessons every week and it makes me incredibly proud to see their progress and confidence grow with every session - so much so that they both now swim unaided in open water and the sea! The teachers are patient, kind, firm when needed and aren’t afraid to push them to new limits to show the children they can achieve them if they try! The sessions are fun, stimulating, engaging and dynamic with a different focus each week. We love that there are lots of days and times for lessons at multiple venues. Our needs were patiently and carefully accommodated when we needed to change days due to a change in circumstances without issue or problems. There are different payment options available to suit your needs, holiday intensive sessions, badge weeks each term, sponsored swims where all the teachers and children get involved to support incredible life changing charities, end of term pool parties and much much more! A special mention to Joanne, Megan, Vicky, Grace and Ben who have taught my children and who are all absolutely fantastic teachers - we can’t thank you enough! We would highly recommend Swim School!!

My little girl has been having swimming lessons with swim school since turning 1. We have recently taken her on holiday and felt so relaxed knowing she can safely and confidently tread water independently. The classes are very engaging, filled with fun activities whilst also teaching a skill that sets a child up for life. We cannot thank swim school enough and would highly recommend!

Giving Back Matters

One of the things closest to our hearts is giving back to the community. Each year, we take part in the Great North Swim in Windermere to raise money for causes we care about – and we’ve inspired many of our pupils to get involved too.

Here’s what we’ve raised so far:
From bake sales to raffles and sponsored swims, our families are always there, cheering us on and joining in.
